Making the Deadline
This week has been really busy because we’ve been hit with multiple deadlines. Now that we finished The Greatest presentation, we are waiting on the company to get back to us with their choices in order to move onto Round 2. That being said, we jumped right into creating a presentation and comps for Severe Clear. Our deadline for this movie was actually yesterday, so you can imagine all the bustling around we had to do since Monday. It’s pretty much cramming the whole process I explained to you down to 2 days. Luckily everything went really well, and to be honest I was thoroughly impressed with the outcome.
Ever since I started assisting them by creating Black and White Comps for The Greatest, they’ve had me continue to help create more BW comps for other projects. I’m pretty excited that they trust me enough to do this because now I actually get to work hands on. Yesterday, I actually got to create a Full Color Comp to be used in the presentation, which I was pretty psyched about. I also had a talk with James and Vivek about my progress, and they both mentioned how thoroughly excited and impressed they are with me. Vivek even mentioned possibly continuing to work for them after I graduate. I don’t want to get too ahead of myself, but it’s good to know that I’m doing a great job!
This week, I haven’t really learned anything new, but I think I’ve reached the point where I have learned their process so now it’s a matter of executing it. They did have me send prints to the printer across the street, and one of my goals here is too really learn the more technical specs of printing and color calibrating. The new Freelance Designer here is really awesome at getting all the technical details and effects in photoshop. I know I am definitely going to have to ask a lot of questions, and can probably gain a lot of information form him. Therefore, if I were to pass on any words of advice for this week, it would be to ask questions and try to take advantage of the people around you for their knowledge.
Our current project for tomorrow’s deadline is working on Handsome Harry. I got to watch the screener yesterday, and all I have to say is that it’s a very “Art House” type of film. I’m interested to see what art direction we decide to go in with the posters.
Wonderful to hear you are doing great at work- I’ve been watching a lot of screeners too- except it’s because I’ve been snowed in and I’m trying to watch every Oscar film for this year.
